Honda Launches PAW-S: A Revolutionary Dog-First Car Technology

Honda has recently unveiled an innovative technology tailored for pet owners, introducing the Pet Activated Wireless System (PAW-S), a novel car boot technology that caters specifically to dogs. This inventive system is set to revolutionize the way pets interact with vehicles, ensuring their safety and comfort during travel. The PAW-S technology will be a standard feature in all new Honda e:Ny1, an electric SUV, starting from 01 April 2024. Additionally, it will be available for retrofitting in existing models at local retailers nationwide.

The PAW-S system is activated by a bespoke tag that responds when a dog approaches the vehicle, automatically unlocking the car boot. This feature is designed to prevent any accidental openings while the car is in motion, ensuring the dog's safety. The system was developed after extensive research involving over 300 dogs across 52 breeds to understand their needs and preferences better.

Among the standout features of PAW-S are a nose-activated infotainment system that includes a fully functional satellite navigation system with alerts for nearby parks and woodland areas, a contact list for canine friends, sophisticated climate control, interactive video footage of wildlife, and a walkie-talkie feature for communication with the driver. These features aim to make journeys more enjoyable for both pets and their owners.

The PAW-S-equipped vehicles come with additional amenities such as ISOFIX points for dog harness attachment, a Honda-branded collar, recessed spill-proof bowl holders, and inserts to maintain boot functionality. For added convenience, optional extras are available to cater to the unique needs of different breeds, including automatic unfolding steps for smaller dogs, a removable 'accident' corner, a paw-activated treat dispenser, and an in-built toy with various options.

Annie Mal, Head of Pet Products at Honda, expressed enthusiasm about the launch of PAW-S, highlighting its role in enhancing comfort for dogs on every journey. She also mentioned the success of Honda's previous pet-friendly innovation, the Pet Co-Pilot Front Seat, and hinted at future expansions of the PAW-S technology to accommodate other domestic animals such as cats, rabbits, and pygmy goats.

This initiative by Honda underscores the company's commitment to innovation and its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of pet owners. By integrating such advanced technologies into their vehicles, Honda aims to provide a safer and more enjoyable travel experience for pets and their families alike.
