Home Telecom Welcomes 11,500 Cuckoo Internet Customers In Strategic Acquisition
Home Telecom, a subsidiary of Telecom Acquisitions Group, has recently expanded its customer base by acquiring approximately 11,500 TalkTalk customers from Cuckoo Internet. This move comes after Cuckoo Internet, which has been recognized as the top broadband provider for customer service by MoneySavingExpert consecutively, decided to shift its focus towards expanding its own network infrastructure. Nigel Barnett, Managing Director of TAL, assured that the transition for customers would be smooth and without any changes to their current terms or prices.
The acquisition not only increases TAL's customer base to around 100,000 but also marks a significant step in its strategy to grow through both organic means and by acquiring residential customer bases from other broadband providers. According to Barnett, TAL aims to add approximately 3,000 customers per month through organic growth. This strategy is in response to the evolving landscape of internet providers and the emergence of new AltNets, which have been instrumental in driving down prices through volume sales.

However, this competitive pricing strategy has led to challenges for smaller resellers. Barnett highlighted that the annual price increases imposed by suppliers on their reseller partners have forced some ISPs to absorb these costs to remain competitive. This has resulted in a significant impact on their profits, estimated at around 20%, a situation Barnett describes as unsustainable.
Under the TAL umbrella are several brands catering to diverse customer needs. Home Telecom specializes in offering flexible contracts ranging from weekly to two years and collaborates with major providers like BT, TalkTalk, Virgin, Sky, and Vodafone, as well as alternative networks such as CityFibre and MS3. Fleur Telecom supports over 25,000 customers who were either discarded by larger providers or whose suppliers ceased operations. Additionally, Eclipse Telecom, acquired by TAL two years ago, now serves 10,000 former KCOM customers outside of Hull.
Barnett emphasized the company's commitment to customer satisfaction by mentioning the availability of a postcode checker that helps customers find the best service according to their location. With over 10,000 Trust Pilot reviews rating the company as 'Excellent', TAL continues to live by its motto "we can do better", striving for continuous improvement in service delivery.
This strategic acquisition by Home Telecom signifies a notable development in the broadband service industry, reflecting the dynamic nature of market demands and provider strategies. As companies like TAL expand their customer base and service offerings, they play a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of internet services.
