Henry George School Celebrates Earth Day With Artistic And Economic Fusion
The Henry George School of Social Science (HGSSS) has unveiled plans for an engaging Earth Day 2024 event titled 'Sound Economics: Celebrating Earth Day 2024 Through Art, Music, and Economics.' Scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2024, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., this event promises to merge the realms of art, music, economics, and environmental consciousness in a unique celebration. Set to take place at the HGSSS premises located at 149 East 38th St., New York, NY 10016, the event aims to offer attendees an immersive experience that highlights the critical issue of climate change through a blend of classical and contemporary music, alongside striking visual art narratives.
The evening will commence with a series of musical vignettes designed to guide the audience through various economic landscapes associated with climate risk. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the timeless beauty of classical music combined with modern renditions, notably Stephen Kennedy Murphy’s adaptation of Schubert’s song-cycle "The Miller’s Daughter." This musical journey is complemented by a Climate Change art exhibition featuring the bold and vibrant works of Tony Cruz, a celebrated Bronx graffiti art entrepreneur. Cruz's dynamic street art serves as a compelling medium to confront and reflect on the economic implications of climate change.

Following the performances, a discussion panel featuring the artists will take place. Dr. Willi Semmler, a renowned climate change specialist and HGSSS Board member who played a pivotal role in the creation of The Steel Miller’s Daughter, will lead this insightful session. Professor Chris Horn will conclude the event with remarks on "Climate Risks and Future Ethics," offering profound reflections on the ethical considerations necessitated by our current environmental challenges.

This Earth Day celebration by HGSSS not only aims to enlighten attendees on the pressing issue of climate change but also seeks to inspire action through the powerful mediums of art and music. By integrating economic discussions with artistic expressions, the event sets out to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for our planet's sustainability challenges. It represents a unique opportunity for guests to engage with experts and artists alike in contemplating our collective future and the role economics plays in safeguarding our environment.
