The exhibition was divided into several thematic areas such as Sunny Island, Rainforest Elves, Recreation and Health Sanctuaries, Shopping Paradises, and Hainan Culture. It featured over 200 exhibits that highlighted Hainan's intangible cultural heritage, including traditional Li costumes, Li brocade, and intricate coconut and shell carvings.

Hainan's Cultural Gems Unveiled in Paris

Wang Zhongyun, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism and Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, underscored Hainan's strategic importance. He described it as the world's largest free trade port and China's premier international tourism consumption center. Wang also emphasized Hainan's role as a key node on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Hainan's appeal as a tourism destination is undeniable. In 2023, the island welcomed over 90 million visitors, marking a 49.9% increase from the previous year. The 2024 Spring Festival holiday alone saw 9.5145 million tourists, generating a record-breaking RMB15.127 billion in tourism revenue.

The province is not resting on its laurels when it comes to attracting international tourists. With 47 overseas routes currently open and plans to expand to 66 by next year, Hainan is also seeking to apply for passenger routes under the Seventh Freedom of the Air in the first half of this year. The newly launched Hainan Coastal Scenic Highway further enhances its tourism infrastructure.

A significant draw for international visitors is Hainan's visa-free policy. Effective from 9 February 2024, nationals from 59 countries can enjoy visa-free entry to Hainan for up to 30 days for various purposes excluding work and study.

The event also spotlighted the "Hainan Assured Payment" platform, a new initiative designed to simplify payment processes for foreign visitors in China. This platform allows overseas visitors to make payments with their bank cards without needing to download any additional software.

Remy Aron, a French artist with deep ties to China, expressed optimism about the future collaboration between France and China, especially in light of the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 2024. He highlighted the potential of Hainan Free Trade Port as a global tourist destination and emerging cultural hub.

The "Bonjour! Chine Soleil Hainan" event not only showcased Hainan's rich cultural heritage and tourism potential but also reinforced the island's strategic significance in fostering international relations and cultural exchange.
