Ford Mustang Marks A Decade As Global Best-Selling Sports Car
On March 27, 2024, in New York, Ford Mustang announced its continued dominance as America's favorite sports car, marking the start of its seventh decade at the forefront of the market. According to 2023 U.S. registrations, the Mustang has not only maintained its position as the top-selling sports car in the United States but has also claimed the title globally for over a decade. The past year saw more than 59,000 new Mustang owners, contributing to nearly one million deliveries of this iconic pony car over the last ten years.
Jeff Marentic, General Manager at Ford for North America and Global Truck, Family, and Enthusiast Vehicles, highlighted the enduring appeal of the Mustang. He noted that Ford has sold more Mustangs than the populations of major global cities such as Chicago, London, or Seoul. This announcement comes as Ford prepares to celebrate the Mustang's 60th anniversary with the launch of the seventh-generation model in North America and plans for its release in international markets including China, Europe, Australia, and South America in 2024.

In commemoration of this milestone anniversary, Ford unveiled a special Vermillion Red and Ebony Black logo at the New York Auto Show. This logo draws inspiration from the original Mustang badging and wheel center caps introduced at the 1964 World’s Fair. Additionally, seventh-generation Mustang owners will receive an exclusive new feature for their vehicles around April 17. To access this feature, owners must enable ‘Automatic Software Updates’ through their vehicle’s SYNC 4 touchscreen.
The latest iteration of the Mustang continues to captivate enthusiasts with its diverse offerings. Whether customers prefer a convertible or coupe, a V8 or turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, manual or automatic transmission, there are options available across various price points and performance levels. The new Mustang is also making its presence felt on racing circuits worldwide through models like Dark Horse R, Mustang GT3, and Mustang GT4.
