FIVA's Innovative Rally Of The Senses Engages Visually Impaired Youths In Kolkata
In a pioneering event that melded the love for historic vehicles with a unique challenge, the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) recently marked its first involvement in an event tailored for the visually impaired. The Rallye Historic of the Senses, organized in Kolkata, India, by the Classic Drivers Club (CDC), turned into a memorable treasure hunt that saw visually impaired youngsters navigating historic cars using Braille.
The event was not just a rally but a celebration of abilities and collaboration. The CDC, in partnership with the Ek Kadam Aur Foundation for Education and Health, selected 20 visually impaired students to navigate 20 historic vehicles. Their task was to guide the drivers to six landmarks across Kolkata, relying solely on Braille sheets of clues. This innovative approach allowed participants to share their unique talents, ensuring a successful journey to each designated landmark.

The conclusion of the rally brought not only prizes from FIVA’s Global Partner, Motul, and CDC but also a heartfelt commitment from CDC to continue supporting such impactful causes. In a gesture of goodwill, CDC presented a cheque for 50,000 Rupees to the Ek Kadam Aur Foundation for Education and Health, reinforcing their support for the visually impaired community.
FIVA Vice Presidents Gabriela Magureanu and Gautam Sen expressed their admiration for the event's concept and its execution. Magureanu highlighted the potential for replicating such an event globally, starting with Romania through their national historic club, Retromobil Romania. Sen reflected on the palpable excitement and enthusiasm of the young participants, emphasizing the joy and gratitude felt by all involved.
This event underscores FIVA's commitment to not only preserving historic vehicles but also promoting inclusivity and accessibility within the community. As an organization partnered with UNESCO since 2017, FIVA continues to advocate for the protection and enjoyment of historic vehicles across diverse groups.
The Rallye Historic of the Senses in Kolkata stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion for historic vehicles meets a commitment to social causes. It represents a step forward in making the world of historic vehicles accessible to all, regardless of physical limitations.
