Final Missing Person From Sunken Superyacht Off Sicily Coast Identified

Italian rescuers have recovered the body of the last missing person from a superyacht that sank off Sicily's coast early Monday. The Coast Guard confirmed the woman's body was found on Friday. Although she hasn't been officially identified, reports suggest she might be Hannah Lynch, the 18-year-old daughter of British tech magnate Mike Lynch.

The Bayesian, a 56-metre (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, was carrying the Lynch family when it sank during a storm. Civil protection officials believe a waterspout struck the yacht, causing it to sink rapidly. The vessel was anchored off Porticello near Palermo when it disappeared beneath the waves within minutes.

Mike Lynch, aged 59, was among those who perished. His body was retrieved on Thursday from the wreckage. Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, survived along with 14 others. The bodies of four other missing individuals were recovered on Wednesday.

Among those who did not survive were Judy and Jonathan Bloomer, a non-executive chair at Morgan Stanley International; Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo; and Canadian-Antiguan chef Recaldo Thomas. Thomas's body was found near the wreck hours after the disaster.

Lynch had invited friends aboard to celebrate his recent acquittal in a significant U.S. fraud trial. The superyacht had 22 passengers and crew members when it encountered the fierce storm that led to its sinking.

The tragedy has left many mourning the loss of prominent figures in various fields. Efforts by Italian rescuers have now accounted for all individuals who were aboard The Bayesian during its ill-fated voyage.
