Fibroid Foundation Declares May As Menstrual Health Awareness Month
The Fibroid Foundation has officially declared May 2024 as National Menstrual Health Awareness Month, under the theme "Menstrual Health — Lack of Information at Every Phase." This initiative gains significant support from Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-6), who has played a pivotal role by introducing House Resolution 351. This resolution is a call to recognize the negative impacts of menstruation stigmatization on women, girls, and all individuals who menstruate, while also advocating for the month of May to be designated as "National Menstrual Health Awareness Month."
A Congressional Briefing is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2:45 p.m. ET in the Rayburn House Office Building, highlighting the importance of this cause. The event, which emphasizes the need for RSVP due to limited seating, is a collaborative effort involving the Office of Representative Grace Meng (NY-6), PERIOD., The Alliance for Period Supplies, The National Menopause Foundation, The Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO defines menstrual health as a state where individuals who menstruate have complete access to menstrual education and information, necessary menstrual products, adequate water, sanitation, and disposal facilities. It also includes receiving competent and empathetic care when needed, living in an environment that views menstruation positively and healthily without shame, and being able to fully participate in work and social activities.
The Fibroid Foundation encourages participation in National Menstrual Health Awareness Month by utilizing toolkit resources available through their platform. The Foundation's mission is clear: to eliminate uterine fibroids while amplifying the voices of those affected from menarche through menopause. Their vision extends towards finding a cure to liberate women from the burdens of this condition. Their approach encompasses research, education, advocacy, legislation, and innovative consulting to improve women’s healthcare globally and eradicate menstrual stigma.
