FedEx Marks Milestone With First EV Cross-Border Delivery From Malaysia To Singapore
In a significant stride towards sustainable logistics, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), has achieved a new milestone by completing the first-ever cross-border package delivery from Malaysia to Singapore using an electric vehicle (EV). This pioneering journey not only sets a new standard in the logistics industry but also aligns with FedEx's ambitious goal to transition its entire parcel pickup and delivery fleet to all-electric, zero-tailpipe emission vehicles by 2040.
The historic delivery, which took place on February 27, 2024, covered a distance of 406 kilometres from a FedEx station in Shah Alam to a FedEx facility at Changi Airport in Singapore. Remarkably, the journey was completed on a single charge in Johor, showcasing the EV's efficiency and reliability for long-distance logistics operations. Moreover, this initiative resulted in a reduction of approximately 100 kilograms of CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered vans, underscoring FedEx's commitment to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

Tien Long Woon, managing director of FedEx Express Malaysia, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "I am extremely proud of our achievement in realizing the possibilities of cross-border delivery through a more sustainable mode of transport. This signifies a major step forward in sustainable logistics." The Malaysia Book of Records has recognized this feat as the "First Zero Emission Cross-Border Delivery," highlighting FedEx's dedication to leading the development of eco-friendlier logistics solutions.
As online shopping continues to grow and sustainability becomes a key factor in consumer purchasing decisions, integrating EVs into FedEx's operations is seen as a crucial step towards meeting customer preferences for more environmentally friendly delivery options. Siti Nurhanim Mohd Noh, MBR Official of the Malaysia Book of Records, congratulated FedEx on setting a new benchmark in the industry and driving transformation towards more sustainable practices.
FedEx is leveraging insights from this successful trial to evaluate operational effectiveness for future cross-border pick-up and delivery operations. This initiative is part of FedEx's broader sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing environmental impact through vehicle electrification, efficient resource management, and investments in renewable energy. The company's efforts also include implementing sustainable packaging solutions and launching FedEx Sustainability Insights—a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool that provides customers with historical emissions data on their shipments within the FedEx network.
This landmark delivery not only demonstrates FedEx's potential to lead industry-wide change but also represents a significant step towards more sustainable and efficient logistics operations worldwide. By prioritizing environmental stewardship and innovative solutions, FedEx is setting new standards for the future of parcel delivery services.
