Experts Unite At CLAP@JC Hong Kong Conference On Youth Career And Life Development
The CLAP@JC Conference commenced today in Hong Kong, marking a significant gathering of speakers from both local and international backgrounds. This event is a cornerstone of the CLAP@JC initiative, established in 2015 by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Its primary goal is to facilitate a smoother transition for young individuals moving from educational institutions into the workforce. The conference boasted an impressive lineup of guest speakers, including government officials and figures from the educational and business sectors.
Andreas Schleicher, the Director for Education and Skills at the OECD, took center stage with a keynote address that shed light on the evolving landscape of education. He emphasized the importance of schools in equipping students with a robust sense of positivity and self-esteem. Schleicher also discussed findings from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), focusing on the well-being and career development of students in Hong Kong.

The discussions at the conference covered a broad spectrum of topics. These ranged from the aspirations and future work perspectives of young people to the crucial transitions from education to employment. The role of vocational education and training in ensuring equal opportunities for all was also a key point of debate.
One of the highlights of the conference was its interactive component, featuring youth-led exhibitions, performances, workshops, and networking sessions. This approach underscored the initiative's commitment to engaging young people in meaningful activities that reflect their interests and aspirations.
The CLAP@JC initiative, backed by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, seeks to innovate career and life development practices across various sectors. It has significantly impacted thousands of students by providing necessary support, engaging them in community services, and offering training to teachers and social workers. Additionally, the initiative has led to the creation and implementation of the Hong Kong Benchmarks for Career & Life Development (HKBM) in schools and youth centers.
This year's conference also celebrated a decade of progress since the launch of CLAP@JC. It aimed to foster cross-regional and sectoral dialogue, helping teams dedicated to youth development craft strategies that resonate with their needs and anticipate future challenges. Attendees were treated to real-life stories from young individuals who have navigated diverse career paths, including those in artistic creation, game programming, environmental waste recycling, and fitness instruction.
The event welcomed a diverse audience comprising young people, parents, educators, social welfare professionals, and representatives from various industries. Through its extensive network involving schools, youth-service units, and employers, CLAP@JC continues to support young individuals in exploring careers that align with their personal interests and values.
