No More Immigration Queues: India Launches E-Gate Entry For Citizens And OCI Cardholders At Delhi Airport
Indians and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) arriving at Delhi airport can now use e-gates for a smoother entry. Their passports and boarding passes will be scanned, followed by digital authentication of their biometrics, according to WAM reports.
The "Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme" (FTI-TTP) was inaugurated by India's Home Minister, Amit Shah, at Delhi airport yesterday. The second phase will include all arriving foreign travellers. With eight electronic gates at Terminal 3, FTI-TTP aims to enhance travel convenience, reduce congestion, and provide a seamless travel experience.
Once the system is stable at Delhi airport's international arrival Terminal 3, it will be extended to seven major airports. These include Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Ahmedabad. Eventually, the scheme will cover 21 international airports across India. This will help eliminate long queues at entry points in these airports.
Implementation and Registration
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the FTI-TTP will be managed through an online portal. The Bureau of Immigration will act as the nodal agency for fast-track immigration under this programme. Applicants need to register online on the portal with their details and required documents to enroll in the scheme.
After verification, a White List of Trusted Travellers will be created and implemented through e-Gates. The registration remains valid until the passport expires or for five years, whichever comes first. It can be renewed thereafter.
This initiative allows Indian nationals & OCI cardholders to use e-gates, bypassing regular immigration queues.
