China's Dehua Porcelain Makes Its Mark At United Nations Headquarters
The BLANC de CHINE - Porcelain from Dehua Promotion Event recently took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, marking a significant moment for cultural exchange and international appreciation of Chinese craftsmanship. On March 15, 2024, Fang Junqin, the governor of Dehua County in Fujian Province, addressed the gathering, highlighting the rich history and cultural significance of Dehua porcelain. The event saw participation from numerous representatives across various nations and organizations, underlining the global interest in this ancient Chinese art form.
Dehua County, located in southeast China's Fujian Province, is renowned for its longstanding tradition of ceramic production, spanning over 3,700 years. The promotion event served as a platform to showcase the exquisite masterpieces of white porcelain that Dehua is famous for, drawing admiration and interest from attendees. Governor Fang Junqin extended an invitation to American friends and those from other countries interested in porcelain and cultural exchanges to visit Dehua and explore potential cooperation opportunities.

Asim Sharma, representing the UN Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance, lauded the aesthetic appeal of Dehua porcelain and expressed gratitude for the invitation to the event. Furthermore, Daniel del Valle Blanco, Ambassador and Permanent Observer of the International Youth Organization (OIJ) to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges for fostering international cooperation and commended the initiative for bringing Dehua porcelain to a global stage.
The promotion event in New York is part of the broader "BLANC de CHINE - Porcelain from Dehua" international exhibition slated for 2024. This exhibition aims to display 105 masterpieces of Dehua porcelain, contributing to the "Global Tour of China's Brands" series initiated by Xinhua News Agency. Launched in 2023, this series intends to conduct exhibitions and cultural exchange activities in over 20 countries and regions over five years, aiming to enhance the international presence of Dehua porcelain.
This initiative not only showcases the exquisite craftsmanship inherent in Dehua porcelain but also serves as a bridge for cultural understanding and appreciation across borders.
