During the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly and New York Climate Week, the COP28 Presidency highlighted its commitment to driving global climate action. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the COP28 President, emphasized the importance of nations submitting ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) well in advance. In a significant announcement, Dr. Al Jaber revealed plans for the UAE to present its third NDC before the next climate summit, COP29, in Azerbaijan this November. This ambitious pledge underscores the UAE's leadership in adopting comprehensive climate strategies that encompass all greenhouse gas emissions and every sector of the economy. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as AI, the UAE aims to decarbonize critical areas including energy, industry, transportation, and waste, while enhancing resilience in food, health, and early warning systems.

“Let's deliver transformational NDCs backed by serious investment to deliver on the mandate of the UAE Consensus," Dr. Al Jaber urged, emphasizing the potential for NDCs to catalyze economic growth, create green jobs, and secure a sustainable future. This call to action was echoed during various engagements, including the Roadmap to Mission 1.5: NDC 3.0 event, and underscored the UAE's determination to spearhead global efforts to keep the 1.5°C target within reach.

Dr. Al Jaber took the stage at the Global Renewables Summit to advocate for a significant increase in global renewable energy capacity by 2030.
