ConMet's TruckWings Device Proven To Boost Efficiency In Heavy-Duty Trucks
ConMet, a prominent innovator in the commercial vehicle sector, recently unveiled significant efficiency improvements for their TruckWings device, as demonstrated in tests on both CNG and diesel trucks. This announcement was made during the TMC, the American Trucking Associations Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2024 Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition. The tests, conducted by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions (MVTS) on Class 8 CNG and diesel trucks, showcased a 5.25% and 6.2% improvement in efficiency respectively.
The testing process, designed to ensure accuracy, involved two identically spec'd vehicles running side by side at 65 MPH on a 9-mile circle track near Pecos, Texas. One vehicle was equipped with the TruckWings device, allowing for a direct comparison of performance enhancements. These improvements were attributed to factors such as fuel consumption reduction, aerodynamic optimization, rolling resistance, and driver behavior.

Daniel Burrows, VP and General Manager of TruckWings at ConMet, highlighted that these results underscore the effectiveness of TruckWings technology in enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs for fleets. He emphasized ConMet's longstanding reputation as a trusted solutions provider and its commitment to innovation through advanced technologies like TruckWings.
The TruckWings device works by bridging the gap between the truck's rear and the trailer's front, thus improving aerodynamics and reducing drag significantly. This innovation not only contributes to fuel savings but also aligns with ConMet's mission to offer cutting-edge solutions to OEMs and fleets aimed at boosting freight efficiency. The acquisition of TruckLabs by ConMet in November 2023, the creator of TruckWings under Burrows’ leadership, further strengthens ConMet’s portfolio of innovative solutions for the commercial vehicle industry.
This development represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of greater efficiency within heavy-duty trucking, offering tangible benefits in terms of both cost savings and environmental impact. As the industry continues to evolve, technologies like TruckWings play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation.
