Celebrate World Planting Day: Plant A Tree With Just One Click

In a significant stride towards environmental conservation, International Animal Rescue (IAR) has recently unveiled the outcomes of its mangrove planting initiative under the IARconserves programme. Coinciding with World Planting Day on 21 March, this initiative underscores IAR's commitment to expanding its tree-planting efforts. In a collaborative effort with YIARI, its implementation partner, the project saw the planting of 1,750 mangrove seeds in Sungai Besar Village, Matan Hilir Selatan District, Ketapang Regency, Indonesia. A group of 18 volunteers dedicated three days to this cause, focusing on Rhizophora species, and successfully covered an area of 1,385 square meters.

Gavin Bruce, CEO of International Animal Rescue, highlighted the dual benefits of the project: ecological restoration and community empowerment. "Our mangrove planting activities are designed to restore crucial coastal habitats while also empowering local communities and supporting biodiversity conservation," he stated. Bruce further emphasized the role of mangroves in providing protection against storm surges and sea level rise, aligning the project with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Plant a Tree This World Planting Day

Adding to its conservation efforts, International Animal Rescue is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Running on Plants. This collaboration aims to bolster reforestation efforts in Indonesia and beyond, focusing on protecting coastal areas and their wildlife. Bruce encouraged global participation in their tree-planting initiatives, especially on World Planting Day, making it as simple as a click and the cost equivalent to a cup of coffee.

As World Planting Day nears, IAR extends an invitation to individuals worldwide to join its reforestation programme. This initiative not only raises awareness about the critical role of plants in mitigating climate change but also emphasizes the importance of preserving biodiversity. By supporting mangrove restoration and tree planting, everyone can play a part in creating a safer and more sustainable planet for future generations.

Mangroves serve as a vital component of coastal ecosystems, offering numerous benefits. They provide protection against erosion and storms, serve as habitats for diverse plant and animal species, contribute to carbon sequestration combating climate change, support nutrient cycling for water purification, and bolster fisheries and livelihoods. The restoration and protection of mangrove habitats are crucial for the sustainability of coastal communities and addressing global environmental challenges.

International Animal Rescue stands as an award-winning organisation dedicated to animal protection and conservation. With a vision for a world where humans and animals coexist in sustainable ecosystems, IAR works tirelessly to protect habitats and animals. Their efforts span from rescuing captive bears in India and Armenia to rehabilitating orangutans in Indonesia and treating injured wildlife in Costa Rica. IARconserves represents a holistic approach to conservation, focusing on innovative initiatives that address root causes of environmental degradation alongside community engagement.
