Building Inc. Unveils Waitlist For Revolutionary Real Estate Tokenization And Smart City Tech
Building, a technology startup incorporated in the United States and Hong Kong, has announced its flagship product aimed at institutional-grade tokenization of real estate and other financial assets. This development comes as the tokenization of "real world assets" gains traction among individual and institutional investors, offering a potentially more efficient and liquid means of investing in alternative assets like commercial real estate.
The company employs a unique strategy to digitize asset ownership and data using blockchain technology, a process known as tokenization. "We believe that the digitization, securitization, and eventual tokenization of a real estate asset begins at the property’s ideation," said Matthew Schneider, Building’s CEO. He emphasized that valuable real estate information is present from pre-construction through to refinancing or sale.

Building distinguishes itself with its immutable, perpetual collection of property data. "Using the blockchain to create what’s essentially a fingerprint for every digitized document, we can provide data provenance," Schneider added. This step is crucial for increasing trust and transparency in real estate investments, as stakeholders need to know the origin, handling, and recency of data.
Institutional investors and asset managers are keen to tokenize their financial assets, ranging from artwork to luxury hotels. The interest is driven by tokenization's potential to enhance liquidity, although there is some debate about how quickly this can be achieved.
"Tokenization doesn't truly bring liquidity," Schneider explained. "Some asset classes are illiquid, meaning it’s hard to receive a cash value equivalent for the asset. Liquidity is created when there’s a buyer for every seller, and no one is buying if there isn’t sufficient or accurate data on the asset." This challenge forms the basis for Building’s platform.
Building’s system collects and validates real estate data to provide insights into the health and performance of the underlying asset. The platform can also procure market data, calculate financial projections, and integrate with service providers for a comprehensive assessment of an asset's value. Artificial intelligence aids these processes at scale.
