BMW Outpaces Competitors With Impressive H1 2024 Sales, EV Models Lead

BMW delivered 179,557 fully electric vehicles in the first half of 2024, marking a 34.1% increase from the previous year. Overall, BMW brand sales rose by 2.3%, with 1,096,486 units sold during this period.

This growth allowed BMW to outperform its traditional competitors and gain market share in Europe. The BMW Group, which includes BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce brands, delivered a total of 1,213,359 vehicles in the first half of the year.

BMW Sales Surge in 2024

"In the first six months of the year, we saw double-digit growth of our fully-electric vehicles and models from the upper premium segment," said Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

"Despite a challenging market environment, we increased sales for the BMW brand in the first half of the year, thanks to our attractive product portfolio. The strong commitment of our BMW Group employees and our robust global retail network have made a significant contribution in this regard," said Jochen Goller.

Upper Premium Segment and Electric Vehicles

The upper premium segment models are gaining popularity among BMW customers alongside fully-electric models. The BMW 7 Series saw a 22% sales increase in the first half of the year compared to last year. Additionally, both the BMW X1 and BMW 3 Series experienced strong growth over the previous year.

BMW M GmbH also performed well by generating significant interest with its first M5 high-performance sedan featuring an electrified drivetrain unveiled in June. With 99,517 vehicles sold, BMW M recorded a sales growth of 5.1%. This indicates a growing interest in high-performance vehicles with electrified options.

MINI Brand Performance

The MINI brand delivered 114,054 vehicles in the first half-year amidst its ongoing model changeover. This includes positive customer reception for the new MINI Cooper cars from the New MINI Family. The continued ramp-up of MINI Cooper and MINI Countryman models and the launch of MINI Aceman are expected to boost sales further in the second half of the year.

A highlight for Rolls-Royce was launching the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II – currently their most sought-after model. In total, Rolls-Royce delivered 2,819 motor cars worldwide during this period.

The BMW Group is optimistic about the second half of 2024 due to several factors. Full availability of new models like the BMW 5 Series Touring and i5 Touring is expected to drive sales. Additionally, ongoing market launches within the New MINI Family will likely contribute positively.

BMW Motorrad also reported handing over 113,072 motorcycles and scooters globally during this period. This reflects steady demand across various vehicle categories within their portfolio.
