Bluewater Champions Global Initiative Against PFAS, Microplastic Contamination In Water
On this World Health Day, Bluewater, a global innovator in water purification technologies and beverage solutions, has issued a call to action for governments around the world to address the critical issue of PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) and microplastic contamination in drinking water. Originating from Stockholm, Sweden, on 8th April 2024, the company highlighted the dangers posed by these contaminants, which have been linked to a range of adverse health outcomes, including developmental issues in children, low birth weight, and cancer. PFAS chemicals, utilized since the 1940s for their durability, are notorious for their slow degradation in the environment and the human body. Similarly, microplastics, tiny plastic particles under 5mm in size, have been found in both tap and bottled water, raising concerns over their impact on human health.
Bengt Rittri, the Founder and CEO of Bluewater, emphasized the urgency of addressing these contaminants. He pointed out the extensive variety of PFAS substances, many of which have not been thoroughly studied but are known for their persistent nature. Rittri criticized the presence of these toxic substances in water, soil, air, and food due to the actions of PFAS producers and the use of disposable plastic bottles. In March 2024, Bluewater conducted investigations in London and Stockholm that revealed alarmingly high levels of PFAS in municipal tap water.

Bluewater is at the forefront of combating these environmental threats through its development of advanced water purification technology. The company's innovative solutions are capable of removing toxic PFAS chemicals and microplastics from drinking water. This spring saw the launch of Bluewater's Kitchen Station 1™ in Europe—a state-of-the-art water purification system that eliminates up to 99.97 percent of toxic chemicals and contaminants. The system not only ensures the cleanliness of drinking and washing water but also enriches it with liquified minerals sourced from ancient Swedish mountains.
Rittri stressed Bluewater's commitment to sustainable practices, local community water quality improvement, and environmental conservation efforts. Since its inception in 2013, Bluewater has been dedicated to providing clean drinking water enriched with Swedish minerals and natural extracts. The company also advocates for a plastic-free world by promoting the use of reusable bottles.
In his concluding remarks, Rittri called upon governments globally to take decisive action against PFAS and microplastic contamination. He underscored Bluewater's belief in everyone's right to clean, safe drinking water and its dedication to making this a reality worldwide—from Europe and North America to China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
