Bentley Launches New Flying Spur: A Leap In Luxury Four-Door Supercars

Bentley has unveiled its first four-door supercar, the new Flying Spur, now in its fourth generation. This model continues to define luxury performance sedans after nearly two decades.

The Flying Spur Speed's Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain combines a 600 PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 190 PS electric motor. This setup is integrated within an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering a total of 782 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. The system offers higher torque from lower engine speeds and increased power output compared to the previous model.

Bentley s Hybrid Luxury Leap

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

The new Flying Spur boasts a range of up to 47 miles (76 km) in pure EV mode, making it ideal for city travel and Zero Emission Zones. The combined power of the V8 engine and e-motor allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, half a second quicker than its predecessor. CO2 emissions are also reduced by 90% compared to the outgoing model.

Full electric mode can be deployed at speeds of up to 87 mph / 140 km/h, with throttle applications of up to 75 per cent. The battery can be fully replenished in as little as 2¾ hours thanks to significant improvements in charger and battery capacity, with 11 kW peak charging power.

The powertrain system manages the energy flows dependent upon the mode chosen – with pure EV, electric boost, regenerative braking – and, most importantly for this new Flying Spur – a charge mode, where the engine drives the wheels and charges the battery at the same time.

Inside, the cabin features new stitch options and extended 3D diamond hide on doors and pillars. Wellness features like intelligent air ionisation and automatic postural adjustment on all four seats enhance comfort. The My Bentley App Studio introduces various applications directly accessible to the driver.

Design Enhancements

The exterior design retains the muscular yet elegant look of its predecessor but incorporates significant changes under the hood. The new powertrain is paired with an advanced electrical architecture, offering modern automotive technology in a luxury sedan.

The performance-oriented character is highlighted by dark tint brightware, a new Speed-specific grille, front bumper, and rear diffuser. Owners can choose between body-colour or carbon fibre finishes for the Styling Specification aero package.

New LED Welcome Lamps housed in the doors project an animated version of the Bentley Wings logo onto the ground whenever the front doors are opened. This new deployment of Bentley’s “light sculpture” technology follows on from its first application in the coachbuilt Batur coupe by Mulliner.

A new 22” Ten Swept Spoke wheel is available in two finishes (Grey Painted and Bright Machined, and Black Painted), along with two other 22” designs available in an array of painted, Black Painted, Dark Tint and Pale Brodgar Satin finishes.

Interior Luxury

Inside, occupants enjoy Bentley's renowned design and craftsmanship with new seat designs featuring 3D diamond quilting. Dark Chrome Specification trim provides a contemporary aesthetic, while new driver instrumentation graphics complete the design enhancements.

A choice of three audio systems is available: a standard system with 10 speakers and 650 Watts, a Bang & Olufsen system with 1,500 W and illuminated speaker grilles, and a Naim system with 2,200 W and Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats.

Advanced Technology

The fourth-generation Flying Spur benefits from advanced electrical architecture for improved infotainment and driver assistance technology. Features include wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, over-the-air map updates, and connected car services like remote charging status monitoring.

Beyond these features, customers who choose to pair their mobile phone will enjoy connected car services, including:

• Remote charging status, allowing monitoring and control of vehicle charging when plugged-in

• Remote Park Assist – enabling the possibility for a customer to park or summon their vehicle remotely from their phone

• Remote cabin pre-conditioning – ensuring the climate in the car is set before a drive starts, including seat heating

Each year further new features will be available, such as green traffic light prediction – which is increasingly activated in major cities in the US and Europe and allows a “magic carpet” drive through the city centre.

The Wellness Seating Specification includes Seat Auto Climate and Postural Adjust to maintain perfect body temperature through zoned heating and ventilation. The air conditioning system now includes air ionisers and particulate matter filters for better air quality inside the vehicle.

The new My Bentley App Studio is the latest addition to Bentley’s digital ecosystem for customers. Customers can gain access to a wide variety of vehicle and third-party applications which can be downloaded directly to the infotainment system, independent of a smartphone.

Applications include music, video, gaming, navigation, parking and charging. The applications are seamlessly implemented in the infotainment system and can be used safely and reliably even whilst driving. The application portfolio is adapted specifically to each market.

To celebrate the launch of the new Flying Spur, Bentley collaborated with motorsport icons Damon Hill and Lia Block for a dynamic display of the car's abilities on-track. Martin Brundle made a surprise cameo in the Bentley EXP Speed 8 he drove at Le Mans in 2001.

The Flying Spur's Ultra Performance Hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain offers an impressive combination of power and efficiency. In Sport mode, it deploys full power with instant torque from the E-motor complementing the V8 engine's performance.

Flying Spur

The chassis features Bentley Dynamic Ride, All-Wheel Steering, an electronically-controlled Limited Slip Differential, and advanced twin-valve dampers for improved ride comfort in Comfort mode while maintaining body control in Sport mode.

Customers have extensive configuration possibilities with tens of billions of combinations available before considering bespoke options from Bentley's Mulliner division. A paint range of 101 colours can be expanded to any colour from Bentley's past or matched to customer specifications.

The interior offers more than 700 colour combinations for leather alone before adding contrast stitching or bespoke features. Wood veneer options include eight choices plus three technical finishes that can be matched to any interior or exterior colours.

Flying Spur

The battery can be fully charged in as little as two hours and forty-five minutes thanks to improvements in charger capacity. Full electric mode can be used at speeds up to 87 mph (140 km/h) with throttle applications up to 75 per cent.

Bentley's latest iteration of electrical architecture enables significant advancements in infotainment systems such as green traffic light prediction activated in major cities across Europe and the US for smoother city driving experiences.
