BEK TV's sports broadcasting team received prestigious accolades at the recent Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association's Eric Sevareid Awards ceremony, held in Minneapolis, MN, on April 6, 2024. The event, renowned for celebrating regional broadcast journalism excellence, saw BEK TV sportscasters Chris Brintle, Dan Doherty, and Brett Loftis being honored for their exceptional sports play-by-play commentary in a small market. Brintle clinched the 1st Place award, while Doherty and Loftis each received an Award of Merit.
This recognition not only highlights the individual talents of Brintle, Doherty, and Loftis but also underscores BEK TV's commitment to delivering high-quality sports coverage. Jordan Hassler, BEK TV’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed immense pride in the achievements of their sports announcers. "Their passion for the game shines through in every broadcast," Hassler remarked, acknowledging the sportscasters' dedication and the prestigious platform's role in recognizing their hard work.

The Eric Sevareid Awards are named after the esteemed journalist Eric Sevareid, a North Dakota native and University of Minnesota alumnus known for his work with CBS Radio and Television. These awards are presented annually by the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association to honor outstanding broadcast news operations and journalists across a six-state region, covering small to large markets.
BEK TV has established itself as a leader in broadcasting high school and collegiate athletics in the region, with a portfolio of over 400 live events annually. The sports team's excellence has been recognized nationally, accumulating more than 30 Eric Sevareid awards among other accolades from various organizations. As North Dakota's only remaining locally-owned broadcasting company, BEK TV prides itself on producing more local content than any other television station in the state. It offers a wide range of programming through BEK Sports and BEK News, reaching audiences statewide on television and globally via the internet.
The network's approach to news programming is unique, offering unscripted and uncensored content delivered by hosts who are untrained broadcasters. This method provides a platform for sharing diverse perspectives and discussing topics relevant to North Dakotans without controlling the messaging.
