Beijing Starts Drone Delivery Service To Great Wall Of China For Visitors

Beijing has introduced its inaugural unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) logistics delivery route at the Badaling section of the Great Wall. This new allows tourists to receive summer relief items and emergency supplies within minutes, as announced by the Badaling area on Friday.

The south ninth watchtower on the extended line of the Badaling Great Wall acts as the delivery point for this innovative route. Opened to the public at the end of 2023, this area is primarily used for outdoor activities like hiking, adventure crossings, Great Wall studies, and travel photography. The absence of commercial facilities in this region makes it challenging for visitors to obtain essential supplies such as drinking water.

To tackle this issue, the Badaling Great Wall scenic area collaborated with a delivery platform to establish the UAV delivery route. Tourists can scan a QR code with their mobile phones at the delivery spot to place orders on a food delivery platform. The drones then deliver the supplies within five minutes. Typically, it takes 50 minutes on foot to reach this spot.

On its return journey, the drone can also transport waste generated by visitors. This significantly reduces labor costs for maintenance staff at the Great Wall, according to the delivery platform involved in providing this UAV service.

The Badaling scenic area is one of the most visited sections of the Great Wall. It was first opened to tourists in 1958 and has since welcomed over 200 million visitors from both domestic and international locations.

This new UAV logistics route represents a significant step forward in enhancing visitor experience while preserving the historical site. By leveraging modern technology, Beijing aims to provide efficient services without compromising on conservation efforts.
