Barclays Partners With Lightsource Bp On $140 Million Solar Project In Louisiana
Barclays and Lightsource bp have recently unveiled a significant $140 million tax equity investment aimed at funding the Prairie Ronde solar project in Louisiana, marking a pivotal moment in sustainable finance. This initiative is spearheaded by Barclays' newly established Sustainable Project Finance team, in collaboration with their Energy Transition Group. As the sole external equity investor, Barclays' contribution underscores its commitment to supporting $1 trillion of Sustainable and Transition Financing from 2023 to 2030. Lightsource bp is set to construct, own, and manage the 180MWdc solar farm, which is anticipated to create 250 jobs during its construction phase.
The Prairie Ronde solar project is slated for commercial operation by late 2024, with projections indicating it will supply enough solar energy to power over 600 McDonald's restaurants annually. This venture is not only a leap towards sustainable energy but also a significant step in reducing carbon emissions, with an estimated reduction of 231,800 metric tons each year.
