Andersen EV's 'Designer Of Tomorrow' Competition Unveils 'Java' As Winning Design

In a recent showcase of innovation and design, Andersen EV's 'Designer of Tomorrow' competition has brought to light the creative potential of students from the University of Creative Arts (UCA). The competition, which aims to reimagine the future of electric vehicle (EV) charge points for domestic use, announced its winners during the prestigious London Design Week, held from 11th to 15th March. Among the entries, the project named 'Java' stood out and was crowned the overall winner, addressing the significant issue of coffee waste in the UK.

The 'Java' design, conceived by Chananchida Promma, Thomas Ford, and Maxel Hutama, features a fluted fascia panel made from spent coffee grounds combined with a bio-resin composite. This innovative approach not only showcases the potential for sustainable materials in everyday products but also casts a spotlight on the 500,000 tons of coffee waste that end up in landfills annually in the UK. The competition, launched in October 2023, invited UCA students to explore new fascia concepts for Andersen EV's A2 premium home charger, focusing on societal and environmental benefits.

'Java' Wins EV Design Contest

The judging panel, comprising Andersen EV CEO David Martell, design journalist Mark Smyth, and LA Design Director David Robinson, selected ten shortlisted designs from a pool of submissions. These designs were then developed into physical concepts by the artists and are currently on display at the iconic Design Centre Chelsea Harbour as part of London Design Week. This event not only serves as a significant milestone in the students' portfolios but also as a testament to Andersen EV's commitment to fostering innovation and design excellence.

Andersen EV: Pioneering Smart Technology and Design

David Martell expressed his enthusiasm for the competition's role in inspiring future designers and exploring new concepts in home charging solutions. "Outstanding design and smart technology are what set the Andersen A2 apart," he remarked. The collaboration with UCA provided an excellent opportunity to engage with students and staff on electrification and design while addressing environmental and societal challenges.
