American Honda Records Stellar Q1 Results, Best Since 2021 Driven By March Sales Surge
In a notable surge of automotive sales, American Honda has reported an 11.8% increase in March, reaching 130,504 units and marking its best first quarter since 2021 with a total of 333,824 units. The Honda brand itself saw a significant rise of 14.9% in March, achieving its highest monthly sales since 2021 with 118,536 units. This growth is part of a broader trend, with Honda experiencing over 20% growth in Q1 on total sales of 303,451 units.
Honda's SUV lineup, including the HR-V, CR-V, Passport, and Pilot, each recorded their best month of 2024 in March. The CR-V led the pack with more than 36,500 units sold, a 17.9% increase from the previous year, nearly half of which came from CR-V hybrid sales. The Pilot also saw a notable increase, topping 12,600 units in March—a 21.0% rise and the model's best month since July 2021.
On the passenger car front, the Civic and Accord combined for over 41,000 units in March, marking a 20.7% increase. Meanwhile, Acura posted March sales of 11,968 units, its best month of 2024 for both the brand and each model in its lineup. The Integra led the premium gateway segment with over 2,500 units sold, three times the sales of its nearest competitor.
Mamadou Diallo, senior vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., highlighted the company's strong performance across both the Honda and Acura brands. "Our March sales momentum came in like a lion and went out like a lion with both brands continuing to post strong gains driven by balanced sales of cars and SUVs," Diallo stated. He emphasized that nearly all models across their lineup posted increases thanks to sufficient supply meeting customer demand.
The Honda brand celebrated its fourth consecutive quarter with sales exceeding 300,000 units, driven by balanced sales of light trucks and passenger cars. Notably, the CR-V and Accord posted their best Q1 hybrid-electric sales of all time. Additionally, Civic and Accord sales topped 100,000 units in the first quarter of 2024.
The Acura brand also continued its upward trajectory with its best sales month of 2024. The Integra stood out with over 2,500 units sold, with the Type S model accounting for 12% of those sales. The RDX also had a strong showing in Q1, posting its best total since 2021 with sales up by 48.6%.
Furthermore, five Honda models from the year 2024 earned TOP SAFETY PICK or better from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), while all fully tested Honda models received top ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Adding to its accolades, Honda secured six 2024 Kelley Blue Book (KBB) Awards including 'Best Overall Brand', 'Best Value Brand', and 'Best Overall EV/Hybrid Brand'.
The impressive performance across both brands underscores American Honda's robust product lineup and its ability to meet consumer demand effectively. With such strong sales figures to start the year, American Honda is poised for continued success in the automotive market.
