Alstom To Supply CLIP Intermodal With 13 Traxx Locomotives For Enhanced European Connectivity
In a significant move towards enhancing sustainable and low-emission transport across Europe, Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has joined forces with CLIP Intermodal, a specialist in intermodal transport under the Clip Group umbrella. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment as it involves the first delivery of locomotives by Alstom to a domestic, private operator within the European France-Poland corridor. The contract, finalized in the first quarter of 2024, encompasses the supply of 13 third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives, along with two years of preventive maintenance during the warranty period.
The strategic partnership aims to bolster the capabilities of CLIP Intermodal, significantly contributing to the development of sustainable transport corridors across six countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Germany, and Poland. The production of these state-of-the-art locomotives will be undertaken at Alstom's site in Kassel, Germany, with the locomotive bodies being manufactured at their facility in Wrocław, Poland.

Agnieszka Hipś, CEO of CLIP Group S.A., highlighted the importance of this acquisition following the expansion of their Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz. With an annual capacity exceeding 1 million TEU and a fleet comprising 500 intermodal wagons, investing in modern locomotives was a natural step for CLIP Group. Hipś emphasized the potential of intermodal transport in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing challenges related to network capacity and traffic safety.
The third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives are distinguished by their operational efficiency, reliability, energy efficiency, and ease of service. Capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km per hour, these units are equipped with Onvia (formerly known as Atlas), Alstom’s leading onboard solution for the European Train Control System (ETCS), ensuring extensive coverage across various countries and lines.
Sławomir Cyza, Managing Director of Alstom Polska, expressed pride in Alstom's role in supporting the growth of environmentally conscious intermodal transport in Poland. He is confident that the Traxx MS3 locomotives will play a crucial role in developing a sustainable and low-emission Trans-European Transport Network.
Alstom's Traxx electric mainline locomotives are based on a flexible design that allows for various configurations suitable for both freight and passenger transport across multiple countries. These locomotives are not only designed for increased operational performance and reliability but also boast higher energy efficiency and extended maintenance intervals. An interesting feature is the "Last Mile" functionality that enables seamless operations from electrified lines into non-electrified areas such as ports or industrial zones. Approved in 20 countries and covering over 300 million kilometres annually, Alstom's Traxx locomotives have been operational since 2000 in numerous regions worldwide including Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa.
This partnership between Alstom and CLIP Intermodal represents a significant step forward in promoting sustainable transport solutions across Europe. By leveraging advanced technology and focusing on environmental sustainability, both companies are setting new standards for the future of European transport corridors.
