World Utilities Congress 2025 Opens Tomorrow In Abu Dhabi To Address Energy And Water Challenges
The World Utilities Congress 2025 is set to commence at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Hosted by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and organised by dmg events, this year's theme is "Innovating for a New Age of Utilities." The event will span 20,000 square metres and gather over 18,000 attendees.
More than 1,400 delegates and over 500 expert speakers from the global utilities sector will participate. They aim to advance sustainable growth through renewables, technology, and cross-sector collaboration. The congress will explore how utilities can meet rising electricity demand while enhancing water system resilience. This demand is driven by digitalisation, electrified transport, and urban development.

Strategic sessions will address building flexible grids and financing large-scale infrastructure. Ensuring reliable utility services in a complex environment is also a key focus. Global electricity consumption is expected to more than double by 2050. High-level speakers will discuss critical issues facing energy and water systems worldwide.
Notable participants include Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, MD and CEO of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC); Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA; Dr. Angela Wilkinson, Secretary-General and CEO of the World Energy Council; and Jasim Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of TAQA.
The programme highlights technologies shaping the sector's future such as artificial intelligence, advanced desalination, clean hydrogen, and decentralised energy systems. These innovations will be discussed alongside policy frameworks and investment models needed for scalable progress. The congress aims to foster collaboration across policy, industry, and technology sectors.
Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events stated: "Now more than ever, the utilities sector is being asked to respond with speed, resilience, and innovation. The World Utilities Congress brings together a global community of leaders who are focused on turning those expectations into outcomes."
Community Engagement
As part of the UAE Year of Community initiative, TAQA will lead a dedicated Community Day at the congress. This day will transform the Innovation Hub into a space that showcases how the utilities sector empowers people beyond systems. The programme will highlight community-led solutions that drive inclusion and enhance quality of life.
The congress reinforces the UAE’s position as a global leader in sector-wide transformation by fostering integrated action across energy and water sectors for a sustainable future. It aims to accelerate cross-sector collaboration needed for an equitable future in energy and water management.
