World Records And Innovative Block-Laying Robots Highlight Big 5 Global's Focus On Sustainable Construction
The second day of Big 5 Global at Dubai World Trade Centre highlighted innovative solutions for global construction challenges. Attendees explored smart, sustainable strategies for future-ready cities. The event showcased the importance of government and industry collaboration in accelerating urban development. Over 20 halls were filled with delegates and exhibitors discussing how to optimise city planning for the future.
Abu Dhabi's rapid rise in the IMD Smart City Index was a key topic at the LiveableCitiesX Summit. Dr Saif Al Nasri, Acting Undersecretary at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, explained how top-down planning, community involvement, and real-time feedback have propelled Abu Dhabi from #10 to #5 in just one year. The city aims for the top spot by focusing on dynamic urban planning and technology-driven initiatives.

Eng Abdulla Mohamed Al Blooshi emphasised the role of events like Big 5 Global in showcasing the benefits of unified efforts among stakeholders. "Events such as Big 5 Global demonstrate that when government and industry align on consistent regulation, smarter infrastructure planning and measurable project performance, we accelerate the delivery of liveable, sustainable cities," he said. Abu Dhabi's transformation is driven by this collaborative approach.
Nada Taryam from BEEAH Real Estate discussed sustainability at the summit. BEEAH operates 50 recycling facilities, turning non-recyclable waste into energy for nearly 100,000 homes. Taryam stated, "Our participation at Big 5 Global underscores our commitment to advancing integrated, low-impact and human-centred cities." Their focus is on practical solutions for cleaner operations and smarter urban growth.
The Big 5 FutureTech Summit explored AI, data, and robotics' impact on construction. Eng Naser Al Shaibani highlighted Dubai Municipality's efforts to transform its construction sector into a leading global ecosystem. Charlie Sheridan from Nemetschek Group shared insights on AI-powered tools enhancing creativity and productivity across design-to-build processes.
Douglas Zuzic from Innovo Group spoke about innovation driven by client expectations and regulatory changes. He noted how these factors are crucial for improving efficiency in real estate and infrastructure projects. The session titled Ask an Innovator: Smarter Spending Under Pressure provided valuable insights into managing resources effectively.
Innovative Product Launches
Buildroid AI introduced its first block-laying robot during the event. With $2 million in pre-seed funding, their multi-robot system offers up to tenfold productivity gains compared to manual labour. Meanwhile, dss+ launched its Next-Generation Safety Excellence Programme for Construction. Ehsan Akhavan presented strategies for enhancing safety and operational discipline across projects.
The Middle East's ambitious megaprojects demand strong governance and safety standards. Akhavan stated, "The Middle East is delivering some of the world’s most ambitious megaprojects, and that demands consistent safety, operational discipline, and strong governance." Their programme aims to embed a culture of excellence while protecting people and assets.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Al Bassam received recognition from Guinness World Records for creating the largest plastic water tank globally. This tank has a capacity of 21,007 litres and uses advanced blow mould technology with recyclable materials. It reflects a commitment to sustainability while meeting government standards for durability and reuse.
Josine Heijmans from dmg events remarked on the success of LiveableCitiesX Summit's second edition: "Today saw the launch of the second edition of our LiveableCitiesX Summit... Outside of welcoming global thought leaders, Big 5 Global has also seen another day of exciting product launches." These developments are expected to boost tech adoption in future projects.
