World Bank Commends UAE For Leadership In Addressing Global Climate Challenges
Safaa El-Kogali, the World Bank's Country Director for Gulf Cooperation Countries, praised the UAE's efforts in tackling global climate issues. She emphasised the importance of increased and coordinated financing during her speech at the 7th Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum, part of Abu Dhabi Finance Week. The event highlighted the World Bank’s commitment to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Global Sustainable Development.
El-Kogali underscored the World Bank Group's dedication to supporting countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She stated, "The World Bank Group is committed to supporting countries as they strive to achieve the SDGs. But we know that we cannot do it alone. That's why we are working closely with other multilateral development banks, the private sector and government partners, like the UAE, to improve the lives of people in developing countries in tangible, measurable ways."

The World Bank Group is actively pursuing SDGs by concentrating on poverty reduction, healthcare, education, clean energy, job creation, and climate action. Through financial resources and technical expertise, they aim to assist nations in overcoming global challenges and fostering a sustainable future.
El-Kogali expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration with the UAE and mentioned an upcoming agreement with the Global Climate Finance Centre. "I am proud of our partnership with the UAE and the Global Climate Finance Centre which the World Bank Group co-founded at COP28. Later today, we will be signing an MOU with the Climate Finance Center to further realise this mission," she said.
This partnership aims to enhance efforts towards sustainable development through strategic collaborations. The focus is on leveraging resources and expertise from various sectors to address pressing global issues effectively.
The World Bank's role extends beyond financial support; it includes offering policy advice to help countries build resilience against climate change impacts. By working closely with governments and private sectors, they strive to create measurable improvements in people's lives across developing regions.
The forum served as a platform for discussing innovative solutions and partnerships necessary for achieving sustainability goals globally. It highlighted how coordinated efforts can lead to significant progress in addressing environmental challenges worldwide.
