UAE Launches ‘Walk To Mars’ Initiative To Promote Fitness And Community Wellbeing
The UAE has launched the 'Walk to Mars' initiative, marking a countdown to the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the event at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club. This initiative aims to unite participants in covering 54 million kilometres, symbolising both the distance to Mars and the nation's 54th year.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber and Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri were among the notable attendees, alongside other officials and partners. The event concluded with public figures taking symbolic steps on treadmills, contributing to a national goal. This initiative encourages movement through various activities like walking, running, and cycling under the theme "Every Step Makes a Difference."
The 'Walk to Mars' initiative is designed to foster daily physical activity and community wellbeing across the UAE. It invites individuals of all ages and fitness levels to participate, aiming for completion by the upcoming Games. The initiative seeks to instil a culture of active living while promoting health and unity.
Sarah Al Amiri highlighted that this movement reflects the UAE's spirit of progress. "Walk to Mars embodies the spirit of the continual pursuit of progress that distinguishes the United Arab Emirates," she said. She emphasised that each step taken is an investment in health and a vibrant future for generations.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, expressed that this initiative represents collective ambition in the UAE. He stated, "This first-of-its-kind national movement embodies the spirit of collective ambition that defines the UAE." He encouraged everyone to join this challenge that transcends fitness by promoting unity and pride.
Following this launch, various interactive activities will be organised to boost participation and awareness about healthy lifestyles. The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 app will enable participants aged 30 and above to track their contributions from anywhere in the Emirates without any fitness or experience restrictions.
This initiative not only aims at achieving a significant milestone but also showcases how individual efforts can lead to collective success. By encouraging active participation across different sectors, it highlights how unity can drive progress within communities.
