University Of Sharjah Hosts Delegation From Monash University To Enhance Academic Collaboration
The University of Sharjah (UOS) recently hosted a delegation from Monash University, Australia. The visit aimed to explore ways to implement their cooperation agreement and strengthen academic and research ties. Professor Hamid M.K. Al-Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, welcomed the delegation led by Professor Craig Jeffrey, Vice President for International Affairs at Monash University.
During the discussions, both universities focused on executing the Memorandum of Understanding they had signed. Key areas included medical and health sciences, with particular attention to healthy aging and geriatric diseases. They also explored student and faculty exchanges, joint supervision of graduate theses, and advanced training programs that align with global job market needs.

The talks extended to potential collaborations in innovation, technology, and sustainability projects. Both parties expressed interest in these areas due to their mutual benefits. This partnership is seen as a way to enhance UOS's international reputation while providing new opportunities for students and faculty members.
Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of this collaboration in boosting UOS's global standing. He noted that working with Monash University would allow for an exchange of academic expertise and open up new avenues for both students and faculty.
Professor Craig Jeffrey appreciated the warm welcome from UOS and praised its academic progress. He reiterated Monash University's dedication to fulfilling the agreement's terms to meet shared goals. Both institutions agreed on future meetings between researchers to pinpoint collaboration areas.
Plans were made for launching research projects focusing on sustainable development and tackling environmental issues. The universities also intend to organize specialized seminars, conferences, and cultural exhibitions to further their collaborative efforts.

Representing UOS at the meeting were Professor Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research; Professor Qutayba Hamid, Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges; and Professor Mohamed Adel Serhani from the International Relations Office. Dr. Nizar Faraj represented Monash University as Associate Vice-President for the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.
