UOS Champions Research-Driven Education At QS Middle East 2025 Summit In Kuwait
Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, delivered a keynote speech at the QS Higher Ed Summit: Middle East 2025. This event took place from 20th to 22nd April at the Gulf University for Science and Technology in Kuwait. Organised by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the summit gathered global higher education leaders to discuss universities' roles in shaping Society 5.0.
The summit served as a prominent international platform where educational leaders examined the future of academia. This year's focus was on transforming universities for Society 5.0, with discussions on digital transformation, academic leadership, workforce skills, and global research partnerships.

During his address at the opening forum titled "Leading with Distinction: University Excellence for the Future," Al Naimiy shared insights into the University of Sharjah’s strategy for 2025–2030. This plan emphasises integrating research with education, adapting to digital changes, and promoting sustainable academic practices.
Al Naimiy announced that starting in September, the University will offer approximately 150 academic programmes. Over 60 percent of these will focus on postgraduate studies. All programmes have accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education, and 80 percent hold international academic accreditation.
Al Naimiy highlighted efforts to tailor teaching methods for Generation Z students. He mentioned the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education's role in helping faculty develop digitally focused teaching strategies that meet modern learners' expectations.
The University also fosters partnerships with industry and government sectors. These collaborations enable graduate students to engage in applied research projects addressing real-world challenges, reinforcing the University's role as a knowledge generator aligned with community needs.
Commitment to Collaborative Models
In his concluding remarks, Al Naimiy reaffirmed the University's dedication to the Quadruple Helix model. This approach encourages collaboration between academia, industry, government, and society to shape a sustainable future.
The discussions at this summit centred around inclusive growth, critical thinking, and ethical technology integration in academia and industry. These themes are crucial as universities aim to contribute positively to societal development.
