University Of Sharjah Launches 5th Forum For Women In Research To Promote Innovation And Sustainability
The University of Sharjah recently hosted the 5th Forum for Women in Research under the theme "QUWA: Together Innovating to Shape the Future." This event, supported by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, aimed to highlight women's contributions to research. Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi praised the forum for emphasising women's roles in achieving sustainable development goals through research.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University, expressed gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi for his support in advancing research initiatives. He highlighted the forum's role as a platform for empowering women in research and innovation, enabling them to address real-world challenges and inspire future female scientists.

The University of Sharjah has made significant strides in research at various levels, with women researchers playing a crucial role. The institution fosters an inclusive environment that supports female researchers, helping them enhance their skills and contributions across diverse fields while promoting active participation in sustainable development.
Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies and Co-chair of the Forum, noted that this year's forum featured collaborations with numerous local and international entities. These partnerships have led to high-quality research outputs and improved higher education standards, with the university now ranked 56th globally in research quality.
This year's two-day forum attracted speakers and researchers from around the world who shared insights through panel discussions and interactive sessions. These sessions underscored women's vital role in driving sustainable innovation and shaping policies for a better future while addressing global challenges through scientific research.
An exhibition was held alongside the forum to showcase advanced-stage research projects from a competition that received 890 submissions from 260 universities across 57 countries. Of these, 297 were shortlisted for further consideration.
Acknowledging Excellence
The first day concluded with awards for the Best Research Proposal and recognition of key partners and sponsors. More than 40 grants were awarded to outstanding female researchers across four categories covering health sciences, biomedical engineering, technology, law, Islamic studies, fine arts and design, humanities, social sciences, communication, and business administration.
The University of Sharjah's future plan focuses on transforming research ideas into tangible products by 2030. This strategy emphasises innovation and development to benefit communities within the UAE and beyond.
