UAE's First Electric Air Taxi Trial Flight Scheduled Before End Of 2025 By Archer Aviation
Archer Aviation is preparing to launch trial flights for its first fully electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, named "Midnight," by the end of 2025. Dr. Talib Alhinai, General Manager of Archer Aviation, shared this development during the "Make it in the Emirates" forum. The initiative is a significant step towards achieving urban air mobility goals in the UAE.
Midnight is designed to enhance sustainable urban transport. It can accommodate four passengers and a pilot, operating entirely on electric power. The aircraft takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter but is optimised for short-distance travel. This design aims to provide efficient transport solutions within urban environments.

Archer has recently inaugurated a manufacturing facility in Georgia, USA. This facility initially has an annual production capacity of 650 aircraft, with plans to increase output to 2,400 units. The company is also exploring manufacturing opportunities in the UAE through a framework agreement with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
The agreement includes establishing a research centre and considering local production possibilities. Details regarding these plans will be disclosed soon as part of Archer's strategy to expand its operations globally and support local economies.
The Midnight aircraft features a fixed wing and 12 electric motors—six at the front and six at the rear. The front motors can rotate between 90 and 0 degrees, allowing for a smooth transition from vertical ascent to horizontal flight within 45 seconds. This technical setup enhances the aircraft's versatility in various flight conditions.
Initial test flights are planned for unpopulated areas before gradually moving into urban zones. This phased approach ensures safety and allows for thorough testing before full deployment. A specific date for commercial service commencement remains undecided but will be announced after meeting all technical requirements.
Dr. Alhinai emphasised that while no formal date has been set for commercial service, it will be announced once all necessary technical and operational criteria are fulfilled. This cautious approach underscores Archer's commitment to safety and reliability in its operations.
The introduction of Midnight marks a pivotal moment in advancing urban air mobility within Abu Dhabi, setting the stage for broader commercial rollout across the region. As Archer continues to develop its capabilities, it aims to contribute significantly to sustainable transport solutions worldwide.
