UAE And Uzbekistan Strengthen Ties Through Multiple Agreements Signed In Tashkent
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, recently visited Uzbekistan. During this visit, he attended the signing of several agreements to bolster ties between the UAE and Uzbekistan. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including legal assistance, e-commerce, education, logistics, and urban development.
In a significant move to strengthen legal cooperation, the UAE and Uzbekistan signed an agreement for mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters. This agreement was signed by Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and Akbar Toshkulov, Uzbek Minister of Justice. It aims to improve access to courts and law enforcement by outlining legal assistance scope and cooperation mechanisms.
An MoU on e-commerce was also signed during the visit. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Uzbek Minister of Energy, formalised this agreement. The MoU focuses on leveraging technology to boost cross-border trade and promote sustainable e-commerce through trade digitisation.
Higher Education Collaboration
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, signed an MoU with Kungirotboy Sharipov from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Higher Education. This agreement aims to foster knowledge exchange in higher education by sharing scientific expertise and developing legislative frameworks for a future-ready educational system.
Logistics Sector Initiatives
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem from DP World signed an MoU with Sharof Rakhmanov from Tashkent's Investment Department. This agreement focuses on developing free zones and logistics centres in Uzbekistan. Additionally, DP World signed another MoU with the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan to launch joint projects in the logistics sector.
Urban Development Plans
The visit also saw the signing of an MoU between Dubai Municipality and Tashkent Municipality. Dawoud Al Hajri from Dubai Municipality and Umurzakov Shavkat Buranovich from Tashkent formalised this agreement. It focuses on designing smart cities with plans for municipal innovation and integrating green practices into urban development.
Trade Enhancement Efforts
An MoU was signed between Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah from Dubai Chambers and Davron Vakhobov from Uzbekistan's Chamber of Commerce. This agreement seeks to enhance trade relations by encouraging investment opportunities for the private sector while sharing best practices for economic growth.
The official visit included meetings with Uzbek leaders like President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss expanding bilateral relations further. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan also participated in joint events such as a knowledge exchange retreat held in Tashkent for the first time. This initiative aimed at enhancing government expertise exchange while exploring new strategic partnership opportunities.
