UAE University Board Of Trustees Convenes For Final Meeting Of The 2024/2025 Academic Year

The United Arab Emirates University's Board of Trustees, led by Chancellor Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, gathered for their final meeting of the 2024/2025 academic year. The Chancellor welcomed new member Mouza Al Muhairi and thanked all members and advisors for their dedication to the University's strategic goals.

The Board reviewed the University's future plans, focusing on academic excellence and research development. They celebrated the graduation of 2,262 undergraduates, 351 master's students, and 85 doctoral candidates. Additionally, they noted the hiring of 92 new faculty members to boost research and improve student-to-faculty ratios.

UAE University Board Holds Final Meeting

Several high-impact initiatives were discussed, aligning with the University's strategic plan. These included synchronising the planning cycle from 2027 to 2031 with the Prime Minister’s Office's framework. A partnership with Dubai Media Council was also highlighted to support national identity and media innovation.

The launch of a High-Performance Computing Centre was announced to enhance AI research and data analytics capabilities. Moreover, the Fatima bint Mubarak Centre for Arabic Language Education was officially opened at Keio University in Japan.

The Academic and Student Affairs Committee, chaired by Prof. Reyadh Almhehaideb, proposed several recommendations that received approval. These included a new Master's programme in Strategic and Defence Studies and establishing a Desert Environment Research Centre. Revisions to international student fees were also approved.

Additionally, an updated academic calendar for 2025–2026 was endorsed along with a revised research policy. These measures aim to enhance the University's educational offerings and global standing.

Audit and Risk Committee Policies

Dr. Tariq bin Hendi led the Audit and Risk Committee in proposing policies on Occupational Health and Safety, Generative Artificial Intelligence, and Data Governance. These policies were approved to ensure robust governance frameworks within the University.

The Board also acknowledged Phase 3 completion of a solar energy project with TAQA, now supplying 30% of campus electricity needs. This initiative underscores UAEU's commitment to sustainability through renewable energy solutions.

The joint UAEU-MOFA "Academic Carnival" initiative was highlighted as part of preparations for the UN Water Conference. This event aims to promote sustainability efforts alongside food security discussions.

In his closing remarks, Chancellor Nusseibeh expressed gratitude for the Trustees' guidance throughout a year marked by significant achievements. He stated: "This has been a year of profound achievement and strategic momentum. Your support ensures that UAEU continues to serve as beacon of academic excellence on both national and international scales."
