UAE Philippines Bilateral Ties Deepen Amid Energy, Trade And Investment Talks At Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met His Excellency Ferdinand R Marcos Jr during a working visit to the UAE, where both presidents agreed to deepen strategic cooperation across economic, trade and investment sectors, and confirmed that a new bilateral trade agreement will be signed during the trip.
The two presidents said the partnership aims to support shared development goals and long-term prosperity for both nations and their peoples, with the UAE already ranked among the Philippines’ main trading partners in the wider region and expected to gain further importance under the planned economic framework.
The meeting reviewed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement that is due to be signed during President Marcos’ visit, with both sides expecting the deal to increase trade flows, draw new investments and create additional channels for joint projects that encourage diversified, sustainable growth in the UAE and the Philippines.
Leaders from both countries also explored wider economic prospects, including capital flows, business partnerships and sector cooperation, noting that closer links in services, goods and technology could support employment and skills, while providing fresh opportunities for companies from each side to access regional and global markets.
The talks took place on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, where President Marcos is taking part in events that bring together policymakers and experts to examine climate change, sustainable growth models and practical policies for low-carbon development.
During the meeting, the two presidents discussed key issues on the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week agenda and underlined the event’s role as a global platform for dialogue, stressing its value in promoting international cooperation on climate action and in encouraging realistic, scalable solutions that can speed up progress on environmental commitments.
Both leaders highlighted ongoing agreements for renewable energy projects in the Philippines that are being developed with Masdar, describing these initiatives as a clear sign of shared dedication to sustainable development and an example of how clean energy partnerships can connect climate objectives with long-term economic interests.
The presidents reaffirmed their intention to enhance bilateral relations across all fields, including energy, trade, investment and innovation, and confirmed that future cooperation will focus on areas that deliver practical benefits, support resilience in both economies and contribute to more stable growth prospects for communities in the UAE and the Philippines.
The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President; and a delegation of ministers and senior officials, underlining the broad institutional support for the expanding partnership.
