UAE Pavilion At Expo 2025 Osaka Highlights Craftsmanship Of Emirati Women Artisans
The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai is showcasing Emirati heritage through authentic handicrafts. On the fourth day, "Bait Al Harifeen" (House of Artisans) hosted live workshops with skilled Emirati craftswomen. These sessions included interactive experiences in Al Sadu weaving, Talli braiding, and Khous palm frond weaving, allowing visitors to create their own souvenirs under the guidance of experienced artisans.
Visitors can engage in crafting activities like Al Sadu, focusing on the "Maghzal" or spindle, a fundamental step in this traditional weaving art. The workshops also feature Talli and Khous techniques, offering a hands-on experience of these crafts. Participants can make small keepsakes from each craft, gaining insight into Emirati traditions.

The pavilion's workshops are designed to be interactive, providing visitors with souvenirs inspired by traditional crafts. Items such as Talli medals, miniature spindle replicas, and Khous bookmarks serve as mementos of this cultural journey. These activities highlight the rich history and skills passed down through generations by Emirati artisans.
Noteworthy pieces crafted by Bait Al Harifeen are displayed in the pavilion. One significant piece is an "Al Sadu" creation featuring large display screens in the "Healthcare" section, which took two months to complete. Another is a rocket model in the space exploration area, symbolising heritage-inspired creativity.
This live participation reflects the essence of the Emirati desert's spirit and values of generosity and skill. The craftswomen embody these traditions, ensuring they are passed from generation to generation. Their presence at the UAE Pavilion continues until April 19th, showcasing the nation's cultural and human heritage in a way that resonates with both present and future audiences.
The UAE Pavilion's efforts aim to introduce visitors to the country's rich cultural legacy while adapting it for contemporary times. By engaging with these crafts firsthand, attendees gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry and history embedded within Emirati culture.
