UAE Media Council Highlights Supportive Legislative Framework For Global Publishing Leaders At Book Fair

The UAE Media Council hosted a variety of interactive events during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025. This initiative aligns with the Council's goal to enhance the UAE's media landscape and promote a sustainable environment driven by creativity and knowledge.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, highlighted the significance of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair as a global platform. He stated, "The Fair embodies the UAE’s vision of investing in knowledge and strengthening its global cultural presence. Its role extends beyond showcasing publications and offers an advanced model for the future of the publishing industry by incorporating the latest publishing technologies and artificial intelligence, while promoting integration between culture and technology."

UAE Media Council Promotes Publishing Legislation

Al Shehhi emphasised that the UAE Media Council is committed to empowering the local publishing industry through flexible legislation and advanced digital services. He mentioned plans to introduce a new system aimed at streamlining procedures, speeding up production, and reducing time for publishers. This initiative aims to boost competitiveness in line with rapid industry changes.

The Council's booth at the Fair attracted media professionals, content creators, specialists, and visitors from diverse backgrounds. The comprehensive programme included activities and training workshops designed to engage attendees. Al Shehhi toured various sections of the Fair, exploring new publications and cultural events while meeting local and international publishers.

A series of workshops were organised by the Council to enhance media literacy among different societal segments. One workshop titled Media Content Standards and Age Rating focused on ensuring that media institutions adhere to age-appropriate classifications to preserve societal values.

The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) workshop addressed copyright issues, highlighting legal mechanisms for protecting intellectual creativity. It saw significant participation from representatives across cultural and media sectors.

Focus on Children's Content

A workshop named Choosing Appropriate Content for Children Aged 9 to 12 was held for parents and teachers. It discussed criteria for selecting content that meets children's psychological and cognitive needs.

The Gateway for Influencer Registration workshop showcased an electronic platform for registering content creators in the UAE. This platform aims to strengthen the media sector by protecting influencers' rights while ensuring compliance with media standards.

Al Shehhi reiterated the Council's commitment as a federal entity responsible for regulating media and publishing industries. He stressed its active participation in cultural forums reflects its belief in building partnerships with publishers worldwide, fostering cooperation, and facilitating knowledge exchange.
