UAE Announces Masterclasses By Global Experts To Enhance Humanitarian Leadership Skills
The International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council (IHPC) at the UAE Presidential Court is set to host a series of masterclasses from 29th September to 4th October 2025. These sessions aim to enhance the skills of the country's humanitarian leaders by providing them with the latest insights into the evolving landscape of foreign aid.
Designed under the "Aid Foresight Programme," this initiative seeks to align the UAE's commitment to shaping global foreign aid with comprehensive knowledge and practical insights into current humanitarian trends. The programme focuses on four key areas: education, capacity building, experience sharing, and strategic networking.

This programme is unique as it brings international expertise directly to the leaders of the UAE's aid ecosystem. It aims to equip them with a nuanced understanding of their roles in a rapidly changing world where geopolitical, humanitarian, and development challenges are interconnected. The UAE has become a significant player in humanitarian efforts globally.
Speakers for these masterclasses include Beatriz Nofal, Bart Fonteyne, and Hosuk Lee-Makiyama. Beatriz Nofal is known for her work in global governance and foreign affairs, having served as Argentina’s G-20 Sherpa. Her advisory roles have included work with the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.
Bart Fonteyne, another speaker, is a Senior Advisor on Development and Humanitarian Aid at Hyphen. He has led policy evaluations and strategic planning efforts, including assessing ENABEL’s 2030 strategy for Belgium in Africa. His work also involves developing educational models in Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Angola.
Hosuk Lee-Makiyama will also contribute as a Senior Advisor on Trade, Technology, and International Affairs. As a Distinguished Senior Fellow at LSE Trade Policy Hub, he advises G7 and G20 governments on trade policy. His influence extends to shaping trade agreements and economic strategies across Europe.
UAE's Role in Global Aid
The programme aims to position the UAE as a thought leader in future foreign aid through innovation and collaboration. It prepares UAE leadership to engage effectively in regions affected by crises or underserved by traditional donors such as Africa, Asia, Latin America, and fragile post-conflict areas.
The Office of Development and Affairs (ODA) leads this initiative with support from the Presidential Court. Key participants include Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), Emirates Red Crescent, UAE Aid Agency (part of MOFA), and Erth Zayed Philanthropies' affiliates.
This initiative underscores that foresight is essential in today's interconnected world. By equipping its leaders with advanced knowledge and skills, the UAE strengthens its role in global humanitarian efforts.
