UAE Strengthens Air Cargo Sector With Innovative 'CARDS' Data Platform Launch
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has recently unveiled the Cargo Data Reporting System (CARDS), a pioneering platform designed to offer a comprehensive analytical perspective on air cargo movements within, to, and from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This innovative system aims to bolster the efficiency and competitiveness of national airlines, ground handling agents, and express service providers by providing detailed insights into their operations and market shares.
CARDS stands out as the first initiative of its kind, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between the GCAA and various stakeholders in the air cargo sector. By offering technical services and sharing analytical results, CARDS enables entities to pinpoint their operational strengths and areas for improvement.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GCAA, highlighted the UAE's leading position in air cargo efficiency on a global scale. He attributed this status to the country's robust infrastructure, continuous investment in sector development, and world-class logistics services. Al Marri emphasized that CARDS is a significant stride towards reinforcing the UAE's ambition to become a global nexus for the new economy, aligning with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.
Al Marri further elaborated on how CARDS would facilitate better decision-making and future planning for stakeholders by providing them with updated data. This initiative is expected to enhance the competitive landscape of the civil aviation sector in the UAE.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, expressed pride in launching CARDS. He praised its features, including accuracy, privacy, and user-friendliness. Al Suwaidi also mentioned that CARDS would enable government agencies to monitor cargo movement effectively, thereby identifying potential development areas for air cargo operations.
Al Suwaidi assured that CARDS would undergo continuous enhancements to broaden its scope. This includes expanding the database to cover major cities involved in goods exportation and importation, as well as detailing the key categories of goods transported by air. Such updates aim to provide a holistic view of air cargo movement and trade exchange in the country.
The introduction of CARDS by the GCAA marks a pivotal moment for the UAE's air cargo sector. It not only promises improved operational insights for stakeholders but also aligns with broader economic development and planning initiatives. As this platform evolves, it will undoubtedly play a crucial role in supporting the UAE's vision of becoming a leading global center for aviation and logistics.
