UAE And Republic Of Korea Review Achievements In Peaceful Nuclear Energy Cooperation
The 6th meeting of the High-Level Consultations Committee on Nuclear Cooperation between South Korea and the UAE took place in Abu Dhabi. Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and Kang Insun, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, led the discussions. Senior leaders from key nuclear energy stakeholders in both countries were present.
Al Mazrouei emphasised the robust bilateral ties between the UAE and South Korea. He noted that their strategic partnership has resulted in significant accomplishments, particularly the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme. The minister expressed confidence in continued collaboration to achieve shared goals. "I am confident that we will work more together towards achieving our leadership directions, as well as our joint vision," Minister Al Mazrouei noted.

The High-Level Consultations Committee on Nuclear Cooperation has been instrumental in enhancing cooperation and laying a solid foundation for future strategic partnerships. This committee consists of three working groups: Cooperation on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant and Overseas Projects; Nuclear Science and Technology R&D; and Nuclear Safety and Security Regulation.
Each working group operates a joint programme aimed at strengthening nuclear cooperation. These programmes include sharing operational experiences, collaborating on overseas nuclear projects, conducting research and development, building capacity, and enhancing cybersecurity measures.
The meetings are part of a bilateral agreement focused on peaceful nuclear energy use signed by both nations. This agreement seeks to broaden and deepen their nuclear partnership to support mutual interests in sustainable development and clean energy initiatives.
The collaborative efforts between the UAE and South Korea reflect a commitment to advancing their nuclear energy capabilities while ensuring safety and security regulations are upheld. The ongoing dialogue through these high-level consultations underscores both countries' dedication to achieving long-term energy sustainability goals.
