UAE Humanitarian Aid To Sudan Boosts USD 5 Million Support For Emergency Relief

The United Arab Emirates has agreed to contribute US$5 million to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund, under a new arrangement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The funding is directed at reinforcing emergency operations in Sudan and addressing urgent relief needs among communities affected by the ongoing conflict.

The accord was concluded between the UAE Aid Agency and OCHA. It was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Aid Agency, and Sajeda Al Shawa, Head of OCHA’s Office in the UAE, in the presence of Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency.

Dr. Al Ameri highlighted that the humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to worsen, with major population movements into neighbouring countries including Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia. These flows, combined with disrupted services inside Sudan, are adding pressure on regional systems and increasing the urgency for coordinated, large-scale humanitarian responses.

Addressing the broader crisis, Dr. Al Ameri stated, "In light of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the UAE continues its urgent humanitarian response and stands in solidarity with those affected by this tragic and devastating civil war. The UAE remains committed to supporting international efforts to meet pressing humanitarian needs and save lives in conflict-ridden areas," emphasising the importance of fast and collective action.

Over the past decade, from 2015 to 2025, the UAE has extended substantial financial assistance to Sudan. Total support during this period has reached $4.24 billion. Since the start of the current crisis between 2023 and 2025, the UAE has allocated $784 million in humanitarian assistance, reflecting continued engagement with Sudan’s emergency needs.

Dr. Al Ameri also pointed out that the scale of displacement and destruction requires sustained cooperation among donors and humanitarian agencies. According to Dr. Al Ameri, intensified joint efforts and quick interventions are needed to help early recovery, support stability, and reduce the severe hardships that people in Sudan and surrounding host countries are currently facing.

Sajeda Al Shawa expressed appreciation for the UAE’s latest financial pledge, noting its role within the wider aid architecture for Sudan. Al Shawa said, "This significant contribution will enhance the collective efforts led by the United Nations, through OCHA and its partners, to reach vulnerable communities in Sudan. It will support the timely delivery of life-saving assistance in line with humanitarian principles. At a time of unprecedented humanitarian needs, this contribution reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to solidarity and humanitarian leadership, and its dedication to ensuring aid reaches those most in need."

The UAE states that it will continue providing humanitarian support to Sudan as part of a long-standing policy of engaging with crises affecting the Sudanese population. The UAE also reiterates the importance of working jointly with regional and international partners, and stresses the need for a humanitarian ceasefire to protect civilians, secure safe aid corridors and help create conditions for greater stability and peace in Sudan.
