UAE Hosts Global Tolerance And Human Fraternity Conference To Promote Peace And Coexistence
The fifth Global Tolerance and Human Fraternity Conference was inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. Organised by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, the Muslim Council of Elders, and the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, this event gathered notable intellectuals and religious figures from across the globe.
Sheikh Nahyan highlighted President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's declaration of 2025 as the "Year of the Community" in the UAE. This initiative underscores the nation's dedication to fostering a socially cohesive and economically sustainable society while preserving its cultural heritage.
In his speech, Sheikh Nahyan posed a question: "What can we do to strengthen peace, human dignity, and harmonious coexistence worldwide?" He suggested that achieving this involves balancing global religious and ethnic diversity with communities' desires to maintain their beliefs while progressing.
He emphasised that dialogue and mutual understanding are key in achieving this balance. "In the UAE, we live together in peace and harmony despite our cultural, linguistic, and religious diversity," he stated. The UAE values cultural diversity and promotes tolerance among its residents.
The conference coincided with the International Day of Human Fraternity. This day acknowledges the Document on Human Fraternity signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019. Sheikh Nahyan noted that this event plays an increasing role in promoting peace, tolerance, and coexistence both within the UAE and globally.
"This approach supports ongoing efforts to encourage individuals, families, and institutions to work together for a prosperous and cooperative society," he stated. The UAE's commitment to dialogue fosters understanding among diverse communities.
The conference serves as a platform for discussing how diverse communities can coexist peacefully while respecting each other's traditions. It highlights how each person's unique skills contribute to national development.
