Al Olama emphasised the UAE's commitment to transitioning away from fossil fuels, aiming for net zero by 2050. The country plans to triple its renewable energy capacity and double efficiency by 2030. This ambitious goal aligns with the UAE Consensus, which guides efforts towards a fair transition in this crucial decade.

Stefan Wenzel praised the partnership as a model for driving renewable energy transitions while ensuring economic growth and energy security. He noted that focusing on power system flexibility, energy efficiency, start-ups, and cross-border cooperation helps turn ambitions into actions, advancing shared COP28 commitments.

The session also delved into integrating renewables into grid systems. Experts discussed challenges faced in incorporating renewables into power systems. They provided solutions to ensure a smooth transition to cleaner energy sources, highlighting the importance of flexibility in power systems.

The Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership began in January 2017 and expanded its focus on climate issues in October 2022. This initiative involves the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. It aims to foster dialogue between industry stakeholders and public sectors from both countries.

"This day stands as a testament to a formidable Emirati-German partnership that has made exceptional strides in the energy and climate sphere over the past 9 years," said Al Olama. "It is certainly one of the Ministry’s most prominent and active partnerships, and a live example of what can be accomplished through outstanding bilateral cooperation."

The meeting reviewed progress made in 2024 while setting an outlook for 2025. It underscored how collaboration can drive renewable energy integration effectively. By addressing key areas like power system flexibility, both nations aim to enhance their sustainability goals through impactful partnerships.
