UAE's Global Philanthropy Leadership: Over AED 360 Billion In Foreign Aid
The UAE will observe the "International Day of Charity" tomorrow, having provided over AED360 billion ($98 billion) in foreign aid since its establishment in 1971 until mid-2024. This highlights its global leadership in making philanthropy a sustainable and inclusive effort.
Driven by core values of generosity, solidarity, and volunteerism, the UAE has offered significant support to nations and communities worldwide. The aim is to reduce poverty, alleviate disaster impacts, promote economic and social development, and foster international peace and security.

On 5th September, the UAE will join the world in marking the International Day of Charity. This annual event fosters global solidarity and addresses crises' fallout. It also underscores the importance of supporting public services in health, education, housing, and assisting communities in need.
The UAE's deep-rooted commitment to charitable work is inspired by its Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This commitment has been further advanced under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership. The country's humanitarian efforts extend to those affected by disasters, conflicts, and crises worldwide, regardless of race, religion, or nationality.
The UAE has launched numerous high-profile humanitarian campaigns recently. These include the "Yemen We Care" campaign in 2015, "For Your Sake, Somalia" in 2017, support for Rohingya women and children in 2019, and the "Warm Winter" initiative in 2022 aimed at helping refugees and displaced people in the Middle East and Africa.
More recently, it organised the "Bridges of Giving" initiative in 2023 for earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye. Additionally, the "Tarahum For Gaza" campaign was launched to aid Palestinians affected by ongoing conflict.
Leadership and Oversight
The UAE's International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council at the Presidential Court oversees international humanitarian affairs. This council is chaired by H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs.
The Ninth Principle of the UAE's "Principles of the 50" emphasises that foreign humanitarian aid is integral to its vision and moral duty towards less fortunate peoples. Aid is not tied to religion, race, colour or culture. Political disagreements should not prevent providing relief during disasters or emergencies.
The UAE's dedication to charitable work continues to grow as it supports those affected by various global crises. Its efforts reflect a commitment to fostering international peace and security through sustained philanthropy.
