UAE Launches Cybersecurity Centre Of Excellence To Enhance Digital Security Capabilities
The UAE is taking a significant step in cybersecurity by planning a new Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence. This initiative involves Tawazun Council, the UAE Cyber Security Council, and Lockheed Martin. The centre aims to boost digital security capabilities, nurture local talent, and enhance in-country value. This effort is part of the Tawazun Economic Programme, which is managed by the Tawazun Council.
The Letter of Intent (LoI) for this project was signed at IDEX 2025. Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Dr. Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi, and Tim Cahill were present for the signing. Retired U.S. Army General John W. Nicholson Jr., Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Middle East, also attended the event.

The centre will prioritise advanced research and specialised training while fostering industry collaboration. It will offer centralised Security Operations Centre (SOC) services and establish 'Cyber Valleys' throughout the Emirates. These efforts aim to strengthen national security and resilience against cyber threats.
Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted that this centre reflects Tawazun Council's dedication to enhancing the UAE's digital security landscape. He stated it would cultivate local talent to protect vital infrastructure, especially in defence sectors reliant on digital innovations.
Dr. Al-Kuwaiti noted that this initiative is a major milestone in boosting national cybersecurity and developing local expertise in this crucial area. He emphasised leveraging modern technologies and global best practices to create a secure digital environment supporting economic growth.
"By leveraging the latest technologies and adopting global best practices, we are committed to developing local expertise and fostering a secure digital environment that supports economic diversification and sustainable growth," said Dr. Al-Kuwaiti.
Empowering Emirati Talent
Gen. John Nicholson expressed Lockheed Martin's honour in collaborating on this initiative with the UAE Cybersecurity Council and Tawazun Council. "Lockheed Martin is honoured to collaborate with the UAE Cybersecurity Council and Tawazun Council on this transformative initiative," he said.
This centre will drive innovation, enhance cybersecurity capabilities, and empower Emirati talent to tackle complex digital security challenges effectively.
Global Leadership in Cybersecurity Innovation
The centre will unite UAE national companies, academic institutions, and Lockheed Martin's global network of experts in cybersecurity. This partnership aims to promote knowledge-sharing, entrepreneurship, and research while positioning the UAE as a leader in cybersecurity innovation globally.
By integrating advanced technology with comprehensive skills development programmes, the centre will support the UAE's vision for a secure economy driven by knowledge. It will help build a skilled local workforce contributing to national defence while setting new standards in cybersecurity excellence.
