In a virtual speech, Ian Saunders, Secretary-General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), reaffirmed the joint commitment between the organisation and the UAE to enhance global customs practices. He highlighted the strong partnership between the WCO and the UAE at both regional and global levels.

The cooperation extends to vital areas such as rules of origin, intellectual property rights, risk management, and control of small arms and light weapons. Saunders noted that continuous collaboration with strong partners like the UAE is essential to overcoming challenges posed by rapid technological advancements, environmental crises, and complex geopolitical dynamics.

Authorised Economic Operator Programme

Saunders praised the Authorised Economic Operator programme as a model of successful cooperation between the WCO and the UAE. The programme currently benefits 123 trusted companies in the country, significantly facilitating trade and security across borders.

Achievements in Digital Transformation

Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al Falasi, Director-General of Customs at the Authority, highlighted that UAE Customs has achieved digital transformation. The sector has innovated various systems, applications, and devices in logistics operations, customs inspection, control, risk management, combating drug and hazardous material smuggling, as well as money laundering and terrorism financing related to trade.

These advancements have positioned UAE Customs as a leader both regionally and globally. The new visual identity aims to further solidify this leadership by presenting a unified front in international representation.
