UAE Council Pushes Forward with Environmental Projects for a Sustainable Tomorrow
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, recently led a pivotal meeting of the UAE Council for Environmental and Municipal Work in Al Ain. This assembly was crucial for assessing the integration of municipal operations and scrutinizing the progress of environmental programs aimed at fostering sustainable economic and social growth within the nation.
Dr. Al Dahak extended her appreciation towards the Council for their dedication to executing various projects and initiatives that align with the UAE's sustainability and environmental conservation goals. She remarked on the Council's vital role in propelling the nation towards its sustainable development objectives, especially highlighted during COP28, which the UAE hosted last December.

The meeting delved into several key areas, including the national program to combat palm tree pests, spearheaded by the Ministry alongside the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority. Discussions also touched upon the UAE Integrated Waste Management Agenda 2023-2026, focusing on organic waste's biological treatment and a comprehensive strategy for implementing Extended Producer Responsibility to foster a circular economy.
Furthermore, the Council reviewed efforts under the National Mosquito Control Program in the Northern Emirates and updates on significant climate initiatives. These include the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the National Dialogue for Climate Ambition, and an ambitious project to plant 100 million Mangrove trees by 2030 as part of the National Carbon Sequestration Project.
Dr. Al Dahak expressed confidence in the Council's ongoing commitment to enhancing environmental and municipal services for the public. She emphasized their role in supporting the leadership's vision for sustainable development and prosperity in the UAE. The meeting also covered discussions from COP28's UAE pavilions and insights from both negotiating and non-negotiating sessions of COP28, underscoring the country's proactive stance on environmental issues.
The UAE's dedication to achieving Net Zero by 2050 through national strategies and plans was evident throughout the meeting. The collaborative spirit of cooperation among council members was highlighted as a key factor in continuing to develop projects that contribute significantly to sustainable development and environmental preservation.
