UAE Commando Group Secures Victory At Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 In Al Ain
The Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 concluded at the ADNEC Centre Al Ain, marking a successful inaugural event. Over three days, more than 1,000 athletes from over 60 countries competed, drawing large crowds. Emirati clubs dominated the championship, securing the top three positions. The UAE’s Commando Group led the standings, followed by ADMA International and M.O.D UAE. Winners received medals and cash prizes.
Organised by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), the championship was supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP). Sheikh Tarik bin Faisal Al Qassimi, Saeed Al Dhaheri from the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, and Tareq Al Bahri of IVSM attended the final day and awards ceremony. Their presence highlighted the event's significance in promoting grappling in the region.

Tareq Al Bahri expressed satisfaction with this year’s championship, stating it attracted top international athletes to Al Ain. He emphasised Abu Dhabi's reputation as a jiu-jitsu hub and thanked partners and fans for their support. "We promise to continue delivering high-calibre grappling championships that elevate the sport and help uncover new talent at both the local and global levels," he said.
Pouya Rahmani from Team Nogueira Dubai won gold in the Men’s Grappling / 18+ / Professionals / 125kg division. He shared his excitement: "I feel amazing. This is my first world title in grappling as a black belt, and it means a lot to me." Caroline Vinhaes of Piramide Grappling Association also claimed gold in her division, praising the tournament's organisation and participant treatment.
The championship featured competitions across various categories: professional, masters, amateur, and youth. The event's impressive attendance underscored its growing importance on both regional and global sports calendars. Athletes like Rahmani appreciated competing against strong opponents like Haitham Redha, highlighting personal achievements during the event.
Future Aspirations
Al Bahri outlined future goals for expanding participation and organisational excellence in upcoming editions. He aims to position Abu Dhabi and Al Ain as premier destinations for world-class sporting events while increasing interest in grappling across all age groups. The success of this inaugural edition sets a promising foundation for future championships.
