UAE Ministry Of Climate Change Highlights Sustainability Initiatives At COP29 Discussions

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) recently engaged in discussions at COP29, focusing on the UAE's commitment to sustainability. The agenda emphasised integrating eco-friendly practices into national strategies and forming partnerships for nature-based climate solutions.

Eng. Mohammed Saeed Alnuaimi, Undersecretary of MOCCAE, highlighted the importance of climate adaptation across sectors during the 'Sustainable Trade Africa 2024' event. He stressed the UAE's dedication to a climate-conscious economy through corporate pledges and collaborations with nations like Ghana.

UAE Engages in COP29 Climate Discussions

Alnuaimi announced a $30 million partnership with Ghana aimed at enhancing nature-based climate and community development solutions. This collaboration is part of the UAE's broader strategy to promote sustainable growth and environmental responsibility.

At COP29, Alnuaimi also attended a ministerial meeting on the Global Methane Pledge. He discussed progress in reducing methane emissions, highlighting its importance in global efforts to cut emissions in energy, food, agriculture, and waste sectors.

Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Assistant Undersecretary for Green Development and Climate Change at MOCCAE, spoke on carbon pricing's role in decarbonisation. She emphasised evaluating carbon pricing policies to drive technological innovations across various sectors.

During her address at COP29, Dr. Alhaj conveyed a message from Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al-Dhahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. The message highlighted how the climate crisis threatens cultural landscapes but also noted culture's potential as a catalyst for climate action.

Methane Emission Reduction Efforts

Alnuaimi visited several country pavilions at COP29, meeting with representatives from different ministries. These interactions underscored the UAE's proactive approach to fostering international cooperation in tackling climate challenges.

The UAE continues to demonstrate leadership in integrating sustainability into its national agenda. Through strategic partnerships and innovative policies, it aims to build an economy that supports both growth and environmental stewardship.
